September Sunshine

Late summer always makes me feel a mild panic. Knowing the long, relaxed days of warmth and whimsy are at a close is a little unsettling, don't you think? Intent to soak up every beam the sun will spare, we've had some outdoor fun the last few weeks.

Here are random pictures to prove it.

We went to Zoombezi Bay (the water park attached to the Columbus Zoo) for the first time, and found it to be awesome. Bigger and better than we'd anticipated. We were able to switch off watching kiddos with our friends so the adults could do the big water slides. Riding an inner-tube around a swirling vortex together was just what our relationship needed. The boys had fun too.

Asher loves to challenge himself. The lifeguard knew to stay close.

Preston and Cambria. We'll see how this relationship unfolds...her body language suggests disinterest, but she's wearing his sun hat, which is much like a Letterman jacket in baby world.

The lazy river was a highlight for us. I really relished the feeling of having our whole little family fit on a single raft as we floated along together. It isn't a feeling life will afford us long. When our babies are grown up in their own rafts on their own rapids, I will fondly recollect the lazy river of young parenthood.

Sorry - I'm super sentimental. Maybe Andrew should take over writing this blog.....hope you like BYU football and eye jargon. :)

The next week we went to Somerset for Labor Day weekend to visit grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. We went out on Lake Cumberland in Adam and Jaclyn's sweet boat, and Asher had a good time swimming with Daddy and tubing with Aubrey.

I love that Asher is at a stage where he doesn't care if he's wearing a pink life jacket. May he never turn into a little punk with an attitude about everything.

Nina's boy.

 Someday, Preston. Someday.

"We had so much fun together" is likely the phrase that appears most on this blog. So in the interest of keeping our little record fresh, I'll just say that it's been two weeks since we were in Somerset, and Asher is still saying, "I miss my cousins" multiple times a day. So there you have it.

The following weekend we went to Cincinatti to do some outlet shopping, go to Jungle Jim's, and meet my Dad for a Red's game. We had so much fun together. Hah, seriously though - sitting in that ballbark on a sunny afternoon in the shade, skyscrapers on one side, the Ohio river on the other, grandsons bouncing on grandpas's knee, eating hot dogs and cotton candy while watching a sport we all enjoy - it was pretty much the American dream.

See that sea of red? The Cincinatti Red's were playing the L.A. Dodgers, and because I'm basically just an idiot along for the ride, I dressed my boys in the other team's colors. Haha...but they still looked sweet.

We're going to miss the kind of fun that warm weather brings, but are excited about a beautiful, brisk Ohio Autumn. So long, Summer!

Asher "Reading"

I wanted to post this little video from earlier this year. It was a cold morning in March, and the boys were destroying playing in their room as I got ready in the bathroom. I overheard our just-turned-3-year-old Asher "reading" a Mercer Meyer book to 7-month-old Preston, and started filming. Ignore the ransacked room - this is so sweet.
